Located along a highly trafficked path to the Colosseo in Rome, the Piazza Della Navicella lacked spacial definition and prioritized vehicular movement over pedestrian safety. The proposed plan redirected vehicle movement to traffic calm. A covered market hall, shops, and apartments created a pedestrian friendly spaces. Currently the walk is dominated by a long stretch of blank brick wall between the Church of Santa Maria in Domnica and the Colosseum. The proposed walk was part of a larger team master plan that would reconnect Santa Maria in Domnica to the Colosseum. This plan included housing, public spaces, shops, and restaurants. A new entrance gate served the Church of St. Stephan, and the new gardens beyond while connecting it to the piazzas. The design pulled from traditional Roman building techniques and local materials.
